About Waypane

In short
- Waypane is a free web proxy: sites you open here see our server's address, not your IP address.
- Ads on our home page help pay for it.
- Waypane is open-source software under the MIT license.
- We log errors, but never the address you asked for or your IP address.
What Waypane is
Waypane is a free web proxy. Type a web address on our home page and our server opens the site for you, here in your browser, with its links and forms working. The site sees our server's address instead of yours, except in rare cases our privacy policy describes. Anything else you type is a search on html.duckduckgo.com. There's no account to make and nothing to install.
It's for anyone who would rather the sites they read didn't see their IP address, on any device with a web browser: a phone, a tablet or a computer. It isn't for everything. When you sign in to an account you care about, pay for something or use your bank, open the site at its own address instead.
How it's run
We run this copy of Waypane. Every page you open, and everything it loads, goes through our server. Like any proxy, it sees what passes through it, including addresses, your browser's headers and what you send.
Our home page shows ads from Google AdSense, which help pay for the server. They appear only on our home page, never on the sites you open through us. Our privacy policy says what Google gets when it loads. We use no analytics, and Waypane's other pages load nothing from other sites.
Open source
Waypane is open-source software under the MIT license, so anyone may read its code, change it and run a copy of their own. It runs on your own server with Docker Compose, and its README explains how to set it up on your own domain. Waypane's developers see nothing of what passes through ours: the software sends them nothing.
What we don't do
- We log errors, but an entry never holds the address you asked for or your IP address. Our host, or a service in front of us, may keep logs we don't control.
- We don't sell what passes through us.
- We don't pass on the headers that would give your IP address away.
Our privacy policy says in full what we keep, what passes through our server and what sites see. Our terms of service say how you may use Waypane, and what you can't do with it.
